In some cases, the waiver of defense, sincere attention to the manager’s remarks, the recognition that they may be a well-known truth, can help turn the negative trend backward. There are cases where workers from very weak indicators in the work achieved exceptional success. This should not be forgotten.
In other situations, you can decide that you can not or do not want to do what the boss insists on. If you and the boss share the opinion about the lack of good prospects in this workplace, there is one relatively non-traditional, but often surprisingly effective, approach to the problem. Return to the boss with the statement: “Thank you for being frank with me. I will try to improve the work, but it seems to be realistic to approach the prospect that this may not work. As a rule, managers have no objections in such a situation – who would like to dismiss an employee if this can be avoided? You will have time to find a new place, you will not need to explain the reasons for dismissal subsequently, and you can control the situation to a greater extent than with another outcome.

But before getting on this path, you need to clearly represent the culture of relationships in the company and install your manager, as you can hear in response that, say, “it seems you are fired, well, and we agree.” So, act cautiously.

Regardless of which way you choose, the main thing, be honest with yourself and take everything without prejudice. Do not ignore warning signals in the hope that you will somehow be able to slip through.
